Book Overview

Since that bad, terrible thing happened, Salim feels unsafe. Without any reason, he is often afraid that something or someone will harm him. These feelings have led Salim to avoid many people and stay away from many things, believing that by doing so, he is protecting himself and staying safe from harm. What Salim doesn't realize is that this behavior keeps him away from many essential and beautiful things in life, such as friends, joy, and love... and even the treasure on the map! In fact, it keeps him away from life altogether. With a little help, Salim comes to realize that there is no need for all this withdrawal to be safe and that he can come out into life and live it instead of just observing it from afar.
